Shopping New York City, like a forever native.
... and a few of the things I've bought locally.
My girls just finished school for the year and it truly felt a bit like I stumbled across the finish line with them.
Can you relate?
Now that we are transitioning into that down shift of summer mode, I’ve noticed how, once again, this time of year always makes me a little sad. If I am being honest I don’t love big transitions or extraordinary days. I much prefer the messy middle of things where there is chaos but also stability and routine.
Give me a Tuesday in mid-October over the last day of school, any day. I much prefer the beauty of an ordinary day.
Knowing this about myself I am trying to give myself grace this week as we transition out of the school year and into the summer. It’s ok if I feel a little sad. It’s ok if I feel unsettled. After all it’s just a season and seasons always change.
I have to admit that although I live in the shopping capital of the world, I actually do most of my shopping online instead of IRL. This is mostly a time saving thing. Plus, I find it easier to try clothes on in the comfort of my home and then send back what does not work.
But really, I like to save my in-person shopping for when I am traveling and can discover hidden gems in foreign cities — like these hard to find spots I shared in my London and Paris newsletters. Mostly, I’m seeking out things that I can’t find in New York City.
With that said, there are a few stores I love in NYC that always have unique finds that I love discovering in-person.
